I'm tired! But before I go to bed I thought I'd spend a little time writing. After the very busy weekend I had, Monday was fairly busy but I finally finished a special project I've been working on! Thanks to a little help from my friend Melissa!
Today I brought a group of hotel chefs and managers to our warehouse in the Bronx. What an early day! I don't have these too often, but I was at the hotel at 5:45am this morning so we could hit the road. Yup, myself, tree Frenchman in my backseat, and one other gentleman in the front headed to New York. We got a nice tour of both of our warehouses right away. Not sure if I ever told anyone we actually have two warehouses in the Bronx. But we turn inventory 17 times each month in our main warehouse, so we stock extra stuff in the second warehouse. That's also where our olive packing and truffle butter making take place. We import massive quantities of olives, then we clean them in a super sanitary room, mix them if they are going into a blend, and then add our own brine with some different seasonings. This way, olives are clean and have a longer shelf life. We have about 10 different blends, and I LOVE our Mediterranean blend. It's yummy!!
Then we had a tasting set up in our kitchen with cheeses, butter, olive oils, vinegars, and just a couple meats. The seafood department came in and did a demonstration showcasing some of our newer products. And then we headed into the meat room. It's freezing in there! But we have lots of meat and it was great for these guys to see what we have to offer. They liked it so much they wanted pricing for everything...I asked them to narrow it down a bit though!
After all was said and done in the Bronx I took them to lunch at my favorite cafe in Norwalk, CT. Yup, the one where I get those amazing chocolates! So we had a wonderful lunch. I ordered the tuna nicoise salad although they were out of tuna, so I got it with salmon. It was really just as delicious. And then they sent us a plate of the chocolates to share and sample. It was so good to see my friends from the cafe. They are so much fun and just great people. I think they're all coming for my birthday so it will be good to see them again soon.
After all that excitement we headed back to Boston. Now, the tree Frenchman really don't speak much English. There were a few times they tried saying things that were totally out of line for an American to say...but then they realized what they said and it was hilarious. At one point one of them sneezed in the backseat something fierce and instead of saying "Bless You", I somehow blurted out, "Zootalore!!" Oh, it was funny. So I told them how I visited Paris last year and I thought it was a pretty city. They said how romantic the city was to which I replied, "well yeah, it looked like everyone else there was in love!" Hahahaha
So that was my day. Oh! And I did learn one new thing! I was driving the rental car, which was a brand new Subaru Outback by the way. And I needed gas, but didn't know what side the tank was on. So David (the American in the front seat) told me how the picture of the gas tank on your dashboard tells you which side it's on. Which ever side the hose is on in the picture is the side the tank is on in the car. Cool, huh??? Of course one of the guys in the back didn't believe him. At least we didn't think so when he said his hose is in the middle. I know. I KNOW. We all laughed!
Ok, time for bed. Golf tomorrow so I need some rest!
Chow,
KK
