Where To Begin??

I don't even really know where to start this blog although it feels good to be blogging again. Life has been pretty crazy and I have so much to share! And when I say crazy, I mean in a good way. Let's start with the important stuff...

I'm getting married!!!! I'm not just getting married, but I'm marrying the bestest guy in the whole wide world. Our engagement was nothing short of amazing and even though there was some major planning that went into it - I just don't think it could have gone any more smoothly than it did. It was absolutely perfect.
For those of you that don't know, here's how it went in a nutshell...
I was asked to take a certain Friday and Monday off from work a few weeks in advance - so I did. The Thursday before the weekend I came home to a note on the kitchen table explaining what I need to pack for 4 days. I noticed golf clothes (clubs were taken care of) so my biggest guess was right - I just didn't know where we were golfing. Next thing I knew, Larry's cousin Tommy picked us up at 5:00am on Friday, drove us to Boston, and we were on our way to San Francisco!!! I had never been there was so excited...although at the time I still was unsure of what the weekend had in store.
It was so nice when we got there that we actually spent the first hour by the pool which was awesome! So nice to relax and sit in the sun. And then we headed downtown, took a cable car ride, visited Ghirardelli, and walked along the Waterfront. We had dinner at Pier 39 and headed back to the hotel exhausted.
We actually used the fitness center in the morning and then picked up a rental car and headed for the Golden Gate Bridge! Very cool to see that also...it was just a beautiful day and a great site to see! Then we got back in the car and continued our drive to Napa.

Around 2:00 in the afternoon we arrived at the Silverado Resort in Napa - ummmm beautiful. At this point I'm just thinking "what did I do right in my life to deserve this???" It was awesome - we checked in and went straight to the business center to fax over some papers for the house. Then we got to our suite and quickly got ready for our 2:30 tee time. We were starving and needed to eat before playing our first round so we cruised in our golf cart for the snack shack. So quickly that Larry accidentally ran over a squirrel! It was okay, but hysterical! So once we inhaled our sandwiches we hit the links and started our beautiful round of golf. It was beautiful weather, beautiful atmosphere, and wonderful to be there together.

See what I mean??? Oh man, I miss that place looking at that...... We were definitely enjoying our round of golf. And at the 15th hole (a nice little par 3) there was some water we had to hit the ball over. Larry was having some serious trouble with that...to the point I was starting to feel bad for him. So he told me to go ahead and try. I took one swing and my ball went straight into the water too. After swearing outloud, Larry marched over to me and completely swept me off my feet! It was right there that he got on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course I said yes, and I cried....and I cried....and then I cried some more..... It was awesome - this is the 15th hole that I will never forget.

Amazing?? We finished up our round (I cried some more) and got ready for dinner. With the time difference we couldn't call anyone, so dinner was first and then we called Greece. And the next day we got to call everyone on the east coast. It was such an awesome morning! If I could talk to everyone I care about like that every morning, I would never need coffee! And we were doing that from our patio right next to the driving range! It honestly was just perfect!

I guess this isn't really the nutshell version, but I'll continue! After we made phone calls and text messages we dressed our best and headed for Yountville - another amazing part of the weekend. Somehow Larry got us a reservation at The French Laundry!!! The one place in the whole world I wanted to eat at before I die. I think I'll actually save the details of this meal for another blog entry. I mean, I don't think I can put this in perspective just how amazing it was for him to get us in there. I never thought I'd eat there. It's this enchanting restaurant in the middle of Napa where they pay attention to the smallest details and make you feel so extremely special. Like I said, I'll save that for another day...I have pictures from the cook book I can scan and post! Oh! And the chef (who is super famous) sent us an autographed menu from that day!!!!! "Karen and Larry, Congrats on your engagement! All my best, Thomas Keller" I almost wet myself when that came in the mail. It will be framed in my home soon...

After the best meal I have ever had, we toured the Robert Mondavi vineyard and got to try some wines. We bought some to bring home and then walked the streets of Yountville. It's such a wonderful, relaxing place. I just can't put it into words.

The next day, we had our second round of golf on the resorts second course. We didn't play that great, but who cares - we were in Napa!! After that, we had to check out and say good-bye to Silverado...although I tried to keep it as more of a "see you later."
We tried to hunt down some other wineries and ended up stumbling upon Old Faithful. We saved $2.00 with AAA and it was definitely cool to see, but there were plenty of jokes to be had there.
And after that we had to go back to Yountville for our reservation at Bottega. It's Michael Chiarello's restaurant just down the road from The French Laundry. Chef Chiarello is one of my favorite FoodNetwork chefs and I bought some awesome souvenirs from his kitchen store there. But that wasn't it...he also happened to be in the restaurant and came to our table to say hello, give us an autographed menu and wish us congratulations on our engagement! Aside from that, the meal was also incredible. Some of the best octopus we've ever eaten. And me the Fiance have had our share of octopus. It was such a great end to the most amazing weekend of my life. I was completely swept off my feet - and now I get to marry the most wonderful guy I know!
I won't lie - we all know I'm the cryer of the family - and as I approach the big 3-0 I don't really care what people think...so I sort of bawled as we were leaving Napa. Never really thought I would ever make it out there and when I actually did, everything was just perfect. Oh man, go away tears! I guess some things just can't be summed up in to words. As much as I love to tell the story of that weekend and show off my ring, I just don't think I give it justice. We had a great time and if I never make it back there it's okay...I'm the luckiest girl in the world and I'm so grateful for where I am today. Thanks to everyone for making us so happy...and especially thanks to Larry, my fiance (now I spelled it right!) for letting me be me and for sharing your life with me.

And before signing off - Congrats to my Dad - retired as of today!!!! In his words...Yippie!

Chow!

KK

Miss you Napa....
