Time for an Update

I’ve been meaning to write something for this blog for sometime now...and obviously just haven’t gotten around to it. I was really excited to write because it finally happened. Supper Club! Although it’s been almost a month since our first Supper Club it’s still worth writing about. With myself and the Hubs, there are two other couples involved. We all really enjoy food and hanging out with each other. The girls get along great and the guys do too - it’s just fabulous! The only rule we have in place at this point is that by the end of each Supper Club, we have to schedule the next one, and know who’s hosting so that we don’t fall off the wagon. Other than that, there are really no other rules. Just us 3 couples to start, and we can all make what we want for the first round. After that we might try to incorporate different cuisines or cooking techniques, but let’s keep it simple to start.

So we hosted the first one. I was really excited that we were finally underway so I kind of wanted to go big, but keep it simple. Since I’m such a huge fan of braising meat....and I seem to have more than enough for the Army in our basement, I made a Julia Child recipe. I got her two cookbooks for Christmas and this was the perfect opportunity to christen the book. I made her boeuf bourguignon!!! Oh my God, it was delicious! And totally easy. Braising is a long process, but most of the time, the dish just sits in the oven, so I really don’t consider it complicated. And you just can’t screw it up.

Ok, so I made other things, but that was definitely the most exciting. We had simple appetizers to start. I made my low-fat spinach dip, but tried adding greek yogurt to it to make it more creamy...totally worked! It was a hit! We had some veggies and chips to go with it. Oh and I also made my bacon and brown sugar popcorn from my beer and bacon party back in 2008. Along with the beef, the hubs grilled up some potatoes. It would have been great with mashed potatoes, but it was a hot day and like I said, we wanted to keep it simple. There were beverages included...I didn’t get to participate in those. Our group is a big fan of tequila (one “l”) so obviously we had that. And for dessert I had made a Birthday cake because two of the members of the group celebrated birthdays that month. It was a great kickoff and our next dinner is June 9th! We’re very excited to all get together again. Good company always helps make the meal better.

So that was my real exciting event to write about. But I would like to clarify that even though I tweet about my snake sightings (everywhere I go), I’m doing my best not to freak out when I see them anymore. I just can’t help it when I look down and all of a sudden there’s one under my feet. The one I saw the other day I decided to let cross the path before I ran. I did stop and let it take it’s time. Ew, they just act like they own the world. And the one I saw today in the yard was the first time seeing that kind. I only know what kind it was because of my snake card I got from the NH Wildlife (nongame section) association. Milk snake. Gross. Red, brown, and gray squares all over it. And it was a long one. I will admit if a snake is small and makes me run like it was chasing me, but not this one. Obviously not huge, but longer than the garter snakes I see. So this new milk snake seems to have made a home in our rock wall in the front yard. I’m hoping we can find it again and (have the Hubs) get rid of it, before it lays it’s 6-24 eggs in our yard. Not that I think any snake is cute or pretty, but this one is particularly “snakey.”

Speaking of milk....I pretty much hate my boobs right now. They make it practically impossible to do jumping jacks or jump rope without giving myself a black eye. But I guess it’s just a side effect of our newest, most exciting news! It’s so nice that it’s not a secret anymore...that was a real tough one to keep. That’s it for now. I hope everyone has a super long weekend. I know I’m looking forward to 3 days off!

 Until next time, Chow!

 KK +1 :-)
