The ASSpirator

So you know those blue nasal aspirators you get at the hospital to help clear out your little one's nose?  Well, I was afraid of it.  Terrified actually.  Miss G seemed so tiny to me when we brought her home that I really didn't want to stick anything in her nose...plus, I knew it would piss her off if I did so.  And actually, I wasn't really sure how to use it correctly.  So I asked her doc at one of her first appointments and the doctor said not to use that at all, just use saline solution.  "You mean squirt it up her nose?"  She showed us what she meant, pissed off Gabs (like I knew would happen) but then, she swallowed all that liquid and was just fine.  So we've been using saline like there's no tomorrow.  All the Moms at Mom's Group swear by the NoseFrida where you attach a sort of straw to her nose and suck the boogies out with your mouth.  No thanks and no thanks - brings back bad memories of a time a had a piece of steak stuck above my expander....

Anyway, we actually decided to try the aspirator after saline once because we could see the boogs right there.  But it didn't work so we didn't worry about it too much.  Gabs has also had a little bit of diaper rash.  It was bad at one point but we've managed it pretty well.  I noticed the aspirator on her changing table one day and decided to use it to dry her bum before putting on the Desitin.  Well, aren't I the smartest new mom in the Manchester area!  It works great and she really doesn't mind...except that yesterday, for some reason, she got a whiff of air that I guess she really didn't like.  It kind of scared her, made her shriek and sneeze at the same time, and you know what?  That doggone booger was FINALLY hanging out of her nose!!!  Therefore, I proved yesterday that what's goes around, comes around and that asspirator (that's how they need to start spelling it so people know how to use it safely) really works!  She felt better, I felt better and nothing was stuck anywhere!  God help me when I need to take her temperature the first time...

Let's get away from that subject.  I think it's safe to say at this point that she's sleeping through the night.  Last Sunday night she slept all the way from 10:30pm to 9:30am!!  But we usually get any where from 10-5 or 10-6.  Last night was only 11-5, but I really shouldn't complain about that.  She's been sleeping since I put her back down at 5 so we'll see what the morning brings for nap time.

Breastfeeding is still going ok but I'm really getting sick of it.  I'd like to be able to wear a shirt without easy access to the front of my body at some point soon.  But at the same time I've realized how nice it is to not have to pack bottles every time we go somewhere and just be able to feed when she needs it.  I think I'll start to slack off in that department once I start working - at least I was able to give her 3 months of that which I think really benefitted her.  Honestly, we probably have enough milk in the freezer to last her another month anyway.  Her and a small village somewhere....

Here's some recent pics of her from this week.  She's really starting to grab onto things (especially my hair and neck) and likes playing.  Her smiles steal my heart...although her frowns do too.  I just can't get enough of her.

Playing is soooo tiring....

Who needs toys when you can kick in your crib with just a diaper on??

Doesn't like tummy time as much these days, but we still do it a little each day.  It's hard work.

She LOVES her new Jumperoo!  Still a ways to go before her feet touch the ground...so cute!

Seriously??  How cute is that face?  I'm partial, she's my kid...I just love her.  So much.

That's it for now.  Just another week until her 3 month update.  One more week of maternity leave for Mommy, ugh!  Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Chow,

KK :-)
