Some of my favorite times.....

Are Saturday mornings with a cup of coffee and the food network. It's my chance to catch up on great recipes and just not really do anything! It's great! This morning I'm drinking my coffee that I bought at Magnolia Bakery this week. I picked a bag of that up while I got my cupcake! It was a little pricey, but a nice souvenir. I decided it would be better than some sort of plastic statue of liberty, or empire state building. You know, those things that you feel bad throwing out so they sit on your shelf for years?? I'm a pack rat like that!

The rest of my New York trip was just awesome! The day after I hit up Magnolia, I ended up working from a cool lunch place near my hotel. Oh wait....the cupcake was to die for! Frosting just like me and my sister's! They got it right! :-) So, the lunch place...A few hours there went by so fast! Then it was off to the Brunello Wine Show at the Gotham Hall in Manhattan. Jane, my PR conossieur sent me the invite when she heard I was in the city. So I headed to this event in a very shi shi hall...

So I did one loop, didn't really try any wine...and found my company's table. We had a few different cheeses, meats, and condiments out for people to taste with these fabulous wines. Basically, the Brunello wines are from a region in Tuscany (in Italy), and you can have either a Rossa or a Montelcino. Tons of Italians at this thing. I had to do the kiss kiss on both cheek thing to so many people I didn't know. But I also got to say Ciao a lot! :-) I was behind our table serving our Parmagianno Cravero. It's a cow's milk cheese from Italy aged for 24 months! Very sharp, salty, and tasty. We also had our Taleggio, which is another cow's milk cheese that is soft and creamy. Then we had our Formaggio Fossa which is also cow's milk and tasted kind of like a parmesean. Our Mortadella and Porchetta were a huge hit! Porchetta is pork with hints of rosemary in it...it's absolutely divine! Our condiments were a fig log which looks like bread, but thick and crunchy, our sweet and sour onion jam, and our pine cone syrup. Here's a pic of Nicola slicing away and the rest of our table. Again...I got to know a few more people from the company. It was really fun to be here!

Nicola is the meat guy I have mentioned before. He's such a sweet man and he always calls me to check up and make sure I'm doing okay. So after this event we headed out to dinner. We went to a place called Blue Ribbon Sushi. Very well known group of restaurants and an awesome place for sushi. I had been craving it so he recommended this place. We started with Yuzu Margaritas. They were okay, but not like what I get at La Careta! Then our appetizers of edamame and seaweed salad came. I love edamame so I could eat them like candy. Soy beans...in case you weren't sure what that was! Then our sushi board came and I was in heaven! I'm actaully pretty good with the chopsticks now too! We had spicy tuna rolls with tempura, spicy lobster rolls, California rolls with king crab leg, and fried oyster rolls. Here's the board....

Sadly, I don't have an "after" picture of this board because we pretty much ate all but three pieces! It was delicious...and now I'm hungry again!

I spent the next day in the office doing chocolate training. I know, more desserts and I'm sure you really feel bad for me and my job. I learned just about everything there is to know about chocolate and we tasted about 5 or 6 different kinds. We had to taste them in their solid state and then in their melted state with something salty and something sweet. I actually skipped the sweet part because then I would have been dipping cookies into melted chocolate along with the pretzels I was dipping in...on top of the solid pieces I had before. And we had our party at night so I couldn't fill up!

Now, the party...it was at the Central Park Boat House. Such a pretty place! It started with a big sales meeting going over last year's numbers and all that business stuff. It was great because I actually got two awards! Nancy, our cheese expert gave me an award for doing well in cheese sales and not really having a background in food. It was really nice to be recognized...of course I had to get up in front of the whole company to get it...good thing I bought a new outfit the night before! Then the seafood guy gave me the "guppy" award for selling lots of shrimp as a rookie! It was definitely a great way to start the night off. All the sales reps who are going to France for their big money awards congratulated me so it was just cool. We had a wonderful dinner of all the food we sell, and there was open bar. I got to hang out with even more reps and it almost makes me wish I was there more often to hang out with them and see them, but they offered to help me and said I could call them with any questions. Now that's teamwork!

Since the bars stay open until 4:00am in New York, I've spent the last two days catching up on paper/computer work and of course, sleep! The hardest part of being in New York was taking crap for being a Pats fan! But I stuck up for myself, flashed my Red Sox credit card and told everyone we'd chat this coming Monday! haha Can't wait to go back there!

GO PATS!

Chow,

KK
