Time to sum up this past week. Not sure if you remember "Lisa" from the foie gras company that visited before, but she was back in town this week and as always with her, it was a great time even though we worked hard. Unfortunately the two days we walked all over town with samples and information were really bad weather days. But we walked as much as we could and showed everyone we saw her excellent product! Wednesday was packed with lots of visits to places we had appointments at as well as other places we didn't have appointments at. We even got kicked out of some places, and hung up on by others, but that's the business!
Thursday was way more exciting...even though our worst visit was on Thursday, it was quickly made up when we walked into the very next kitchen (a seafood restaurant) to find them butchering a 125lb. pig on the counter! "Lisa" shouted "Oh my goodness, a pig!" It was great! And it only got better when we looked at the counter behind us with the pig's head on it. The cook sawing that sucker asked if we wanted a shot at it, to which I naturally replied..."Uh, yeah!" So I got to saw a pig's head in half. It was kind of cool, but I guess weird in it's own way. Neither of us thought the chefs thought we would be that excited. And instead of being all grossed out, we got right in. I did ask if they named the pig and they did. I forget the story, but he started as David and then they renamed him Moses. It was definitely the highlight of our day! Oddly enough...seeing a saw (haha see-saw) in the middle of a head made me feel like I had a headache but it was all good! We had dinner at that restaurant later on at night and it was awesome! They had some new things on the menu for us to try and we sat at the Island (just like with Mark) and had a few Dr. Huxtable's Ugly Sweaters. I think it's my favorite drink in the city because of the name and the way it tastes! Some of the food we sampled from the Island was the halibut tacos, fresh nairobi, lobster and octopus ceviche with a chile barbecue sauce (soo delicious), and my favorite pomegranate tuna tartare! Everything was so good. Then we ordered our dinners not from the sea, but "Lisa" had the lamb rack and I had the venison. Then they sent us dessert even though we couldn't believe how full we were! There was a toffee ice cream that was to die for and the most rich chocolate pudding you will ever have! It came in a tumbler glass with candided nuts and homemade marshmallows! There was no pork on the menu yet, but supposedly Moses made his appearance the next day. The guys came down and had a drink with us so it was cool to sit and chat with them somewhat outside of work. They definitely took care of us!
Then we were off to Industry Night at another account of mine. Actually, the place where I got this job a year ago. Can you believe it's been a year already??? So it's usually hit or miss at this place as far as how many chefs are there. Well...this past Thursday was a huge hit! There were tons of chefs there and me and "Lisa" got to hang out with one of the country's best chefs! As usual I was a little nervous, but the chefs there gave us a couple PBR's to ease us up! It was after they gave us those that I coined the phrase..."You're only a VIP if you drink PBR." And that's how we got the attention of the big wig chef! Even though we were just supposed to be having fun, I think I set up about 6 appointments with chefs next week! Yay!
Hopefully "Lisa" will be back soon because we had a great time. Yes, we were working but it was so much fun. There's a quote out there that says, "If you enjoy what you do, you will never work a day in your life." Wish I could give credit to whomever said that, but it's a quote I really like!
Yesterday was the big Wine Expo in Boston. Over 18,000 different wines to choose and taste! It was a lot of fun. I brought a chef that I started working with a few months ago. He knows a lot about wine so it was nice to be able to learn from someone with experience picking out aromas and tastes of the wines all while pairing them with food. We didn't try all 18,000 wines, but we tried! Some of my other chefs were there doing on-stage demonstrations so I got to say hi to them...I told one of them a really bad joke. Well, bad to most people, which means it's my new favorite! Ask me my new chicken joke next time! :-) Thanks for sharing it Brie!
Ok, well, I sadly have to go pick up Ellie now. She had to be towed away Friday night because she wasn't working. I was so sad to see her go, but she's all better now and ready to come home! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Chow,
KK
